{"id":16527,"date":"2015-02-25T09:17:13","date_gmt":"2015-02-25T14:17:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/edc\/?p=16527"},"modified":"2021-08-13T10:15:22","modified_gmt":"2021-08-13T14:15:22","slug":"discover-two-carleton-courses-engaging-community-upcoming-roundtable","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/tls\/2015\/discover-two-carleton-courses-engaging-community-upcoming-roundtable\/","title":{"rendered":"Discover how two Carleton courses are engaging the community at our upcoming roundtable"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Friday, March 6, join the EDC and professors Ben Gianni and Adje van de Sande for a teaching roundtable as they highlight how they have been integrating <a href=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/edc\/community-engaged-pedagogy\/\">Community Engaged Pedagogy (CEP)<\/a> into their architecture and social work courses.<\/p>\n<p>CEP aims to develop students\u2019 skills through a combination of community work and classroom learning, creating linkages between academic study and the larger public life.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Gianni will describe how the university can be used as a \u201csafe\u201d environment for parties who are potentially on opposite sides of issues, using three projects from his course as examples.<\/p>\n<p>Professor van de Sande will focus on his course, Research and Evaluation in Social Work, which places a strong emphasis on a community-based participatory approach to research. Through this course, students have completed over 100 research projects for community organizations in the last nine years.<\/p>\n<p>The roundtable will run from 12-1 p.m. in room 422 Dunton Tower.
