Threshold concepts have been described as \u201cportals\u201d or \u201cconceptual gateways\u201d that \u201copen up previously inaccessible ways of thinking\u201d (Meyer and Land, 2003).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As specialists who are already well-versed in their own fields, instructors are already through the gateway. How do we know when we\u2019re dealing with a threshold concept in our own disciplines?
