If you have gradebook questions, or want TLS staff to check over your settings, we are ready to help. Register for one of our drop-in sessions:\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/tls\/cu-events\/brightspace-support-hour-10\/\">Dec. 7<\/a>\u2013 Brightspace Support Hour<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/tls\/cu-events\/brightspace-gradebook-clinic-2\/\">Dec. 9<\/a>\u2013 Gradebook Clinic<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/tls\/cu-events\/brightspace-gradebook-clinic\/\">Dec. 14<\/a>\u2013 Gradebook Clinic<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/tls\/cu-events\/brightspace-support-hour-8\/\">Dec. 16<\/a>\u2013 Brightspace Support Hour<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tips for communicating with your students: <\/strong>All Brightspace courses have start and end dates based on the first and last day of class. If you want to communicate with your students after the course end date has passed, or before the winter start date has arrived, send an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/brightspace\/instructors\/emailing-students\/\">email in the Brightspace Classlist<\/a>.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/brightspace\/instructors\/posting-announcements\/\">Announcements in Brightspace<\/a>\u00a0don\u2019t get sent to students outside the start and end dates in a course. They can be pre-scheduled for release for the first day of class though.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Explore\u00a0grading\u00a0tutorials for Brightspace:\u00a0<\/strong>TLS has created a Brightspace channel for instructors and students in Mediaspace. Watch the tutorial on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mediaspace.carleton.ca\/media\/Grading+Assignments+in+Brightspace\/1_3hx7ymcf\">grading assignments,\u00a0<\/a>dive deeper in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mediaspace.carleton.ca\/media\/Brightspace+Gradebook+-+May+12th%2C+2021\/1_5uk92x62\">Gradebook training workshop\u00a0<\/a>or share the video tutorial of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mediaspace.carleton.ca\/media\/Accessing+Grades+and+Feedback+on+Brightspace+for+Students\/1_rh5sszzv\">accessing grades and feedback with your students.<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Unwrapping the winter term ahead<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Consult the course setup guide: <\/strong>Wondering how to start building your Brightspace course site? Work your way through the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/brightspace\/instructors\/course-setup-guide\/\">course setup guide<\/a>\u00a0to ensure you include all the important course elements. If you get stuck, complete a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/tls\/course-consultation\/\">course consultation request form<\/a>\u00a0and TLS staff will meet with you to help you stay on track.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Merge your courses prior to adding content: <\/strong>If you\u2019re teaching multiple sections of the same course and want to merge them into one in Brightspace, fill out the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/brightspace\/instructors\/crosslisting-brightspace-courses\/\">course merge request form<\/a>\u00a0early, before you\u2019ve built any course content. Courses can only be merged prior to student activity in the course.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Create a course overview tour:\u00a0<\/strong>Help your students navigate your Brightspace course by\u00a0creating a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/tls\/2021\/blog-reducing-emails-from-students-with-a-brightspace-course-overview-2-2\/\">short video that explains where to find key course content<\/a><strong>.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Activate your course to allow students access: <\/strong>Courses are hidden by default when they are created by ITS. You\u2019ll need to activate your course to share it with your students. For instructions, see\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/brightspace\/instructors\/making-courses-visible\/\">make courses active<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Update your Zoom software for maximum performance: <\/strong>If you use the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/support.zoom.us\/hc\/en-us\/articles\/360027397692-Desktop-client-mobile-app-web-client-and-PWA-comparison\">Zoom client (desktop application)<\/a>, you will need to update to the latest version each term to ensure you have access to the newest features, fixes and settings. The\u00a0desktop app\u00a0offers a fuller, feature rich experience over a browser-based session. With the start of term on the horizon, it\u2019s a great time to ensure you\u2019re getting the most out of your tools.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Whether you\u2019re wrapping up the fall or unwrapping the winter term, TLS is ready to help.
