{"id":46437,"date":"2023-05-09T16:03:15","date_gmt":"2023-05-09T20:03:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/tls\/?p=46437"},"modified":"2023-05-09T16:05:51","modified_gmt":"2023-05-09T20:05:51","slug":"2022-23-outstanding-ta-award-winners","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/tls\/2023\/2022-23-outstanding-ta-award-winners\/","title":{"rendered":"2022-23 Outstanding TA Award Winners"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Teaching and Learning Services is pleased to announce the five outstanding teaching assistants (TAs) and three honourable mentions for the 2022-23\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/tls\/teaching-assistants\/outstanding-ta-award\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Outstanding TA Awards<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The awards celebrate the support TAs give to the undergraduate and graduate programs in their disciplines, their roles in establishing a positive learning environment, and their work in implementing innovative teaching practices.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The awards committee was impressed with the strength and versatility of the nominations. After much deliberation, the following five TAs were selected as this year\u2019s recipients of the award:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Alec Cotton<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, Department of Systems and Computer Engineering (SYSC 4906)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Stone Liu<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, Department of Systems and Computer Engineering (SYSC 4005)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Brianna Parent Long<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, Department of Political Science (PSCI 2500)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Alicia Mcvarnock<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, Department of Psychology (PSYC 3500)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Samantha Schwab<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, School of Linguistics and Language Studies (LING 3004)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The adjudication committee wanted to recognize and celebrate three additional TAs through honourable mentions. This year\u2019s honourable mentions are:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Joseph Gondek<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, School of Mathematics and Statistics (MATH 2000; 2107)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Jackie Mahoney<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, Department of History: Digital Humanities (HIST 3106)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Farzam Sepanta<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (ENVE 1001)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">All winners and honourable mentions will receive a certificate and all five winners will receive $250 to recognize their commitment to student learning.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Congratulations to all recipients, honourable mentions, and nominees for the 2022-23 Outstanding Teaching Assistant Awards, and thank you to the hundreds of students, peers and instructors who took the time to recognize the fine work of Carleton\u2019s TAs!<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Teaching and Learning Services is pleased to announce the five outstanding teaching assistants (TAs) and three honourable mentions for the 2022-23\u00a0Outstanding TA Awards.\u00a0 The awards celebrate the support TAs give to the undergraduate and graduate programs in their disciplines, their roles in establishing a positive learning environment, and their work in implementing innovative teaching practices.
