{"id":4721,"date":"2015-09-09T11:22:58","date_gmt":"2015-09-09T15:22:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/tasupport\/?p=4721"},"modified":"2021-08-13T16:03:56","modified_gmt":"2021-08-13T20:03:56","slug":"phd-candidates-get-ready-for-a-career-in-teaching-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/tls\/2015\/phd-candidates-get-ready-for-a-career-in-teaching-2\/","title":{"rendered":"PhD Candidates &#8212; Get Ready for a Career in Teaching"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Registration is now open for our Preparing to Teach certificate, a blended program specifically designed to help PhD candidates prepare for the teaching components of a career in academia.<\/p>\n<p>This 9-week program, which consists of weekly 2-3 hour meetings plus a significant online component, allows you to gain hands-on experience with a range of teaching and assessment methods, to learn how to manage both large and small classes, and to address teaching and learning issues particular to your discipline. Although informed by theory, the focus will be on teaching practice. You&#8217;ll develop new course materials and try out various teaching approaches within a supportive peer cohort.<\/p>\n<p>The Fall cohort will meet on Thursdays from 1-4 p.m., beginning October 1 and ending December 3 (with no class on October 29 due to the Fall Reading Week). During weeks that feature online learning components (weeks 2-7), our class time will only run from 1-3 p.m. The last day to register is Friday, Sept. 25.
