The awards celebrate\u00a0the support TAs give to the undergraduate programs in their disciplines, their roles in establishing a positive learning environment, and their work in implementing innovative teaching practices.<\/p>\n<p>There were almost 200 TAs nominated, many with strong supporting evidence, which made for a very difficult selection process. The awards committee was impressed with the strength and versatility of the nominations as well as Carleton TAs\u2019 dedication to enhancing student learning. After much deliberation, the following five TAs were selected as this year\u2019s recipients of the award:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Mark Brown (Department of Psychology)<\/li>\n<li>Melanie Fillingham (Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering)<\/li>\n<li>Shannon Dempsey (Department of Law and Legal Studies)<\/li>\n<li>Laura McKendy (Department of Sociology and Anthropology)<\/li>\n<li>Christina Williamson (Institute for Comparative Studies in Literature, Art, and Culture)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Each will be awarded a certificate at a private luncheon on April 15\u00a0as well as $250 for their commitment to improving student learning. Dr. Roseann Runte (President), Dr. Peter Ricketts (Provost and Vice-President [Academic]), and Dr. Joy Mighty (Associate Vice-President [Teaching and Learning]) will be among the guests present to celebrate the recipients\u2019 accomplishments.<\/p>\n<p>Because we received so many strong nominations, the committee also wanted to recognize and celebrate five additional TAs through honourable mentions. Each will receive an official letter from Dr. Mighty that recognizes their achievement. The following TAs were selected as honourable mentions for the award:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Jayantha Ramasubramanyam\u00a0(Department of Law and Legal Studies)<\/li>\n<li>Andrew Sproule (School for Studies in Arts and Culture)<\/li>\n<li>Jenna Herdman (Department of English)<\/li>\n<li>Ahmed Hassan (Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering)<\/li>\n<li>Justin Langille (Department of Sociology and Anthropology)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Congratulations to all recipients, honourable mentions, and nominees for the 2015-2016\u00a0<em>Outstanding Teaching Assistant Awards<\/em>, and thank you to the 420+ students, peers, and instructors who took the time to recognize the fine work of Carleton\u2019s TAs!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The EDC is pleased to announce the five outstanding Teaching Assistants (TAs) who have been named recipients of the 2015-2016\u00a0Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award.
