The Sejm is controlled by the governing Law and Justice Party (PiS) and the Senate is controlled by the opposition (Civil Platform, the Left, and the Polish People\u2019s Party). Poland\u2019s government as well as the main opposition party are in favour of CETA, however the government has not yet initiated the ratification process.<\/p>\n<h4>Public debate<\/h4>\n<p>Contestation on CETA ratification in Poland has been limited. While the governing PiS\u2019s leadership and most PiS members, as well as largest opposition party (the Civic Platform) are largely supportive of CETA, there is contestation of CETA\u2019s ratification. Contestation in Poland focuses on the investor-state dispute settlement provisions as a &#8220;parallel justice system&#8221;, as well as agricultural and food standards and safety (GMOs). Opponent CSOs include Fundacja Ku\u017ania Kampanier\u00f3w, the Institute of Global Responsibility and Stowarzyszenie Ekologiczne EKO-UNIA.<\/p>\n<h4>Trade data<\/h4>\n<p>Poland had a trade surplus in goods trade with Canada of \u20ac933 million in 2021 (<a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/eurostat\/statistics-explained\/index.php?title=Canada-EU_-_international_trade_in_goods_statistics#Trade_with_Canada_by_Member_State\">Eurostat<\/a>). Moreover, imports from Canada were \u20ac320 million, 0.3% of Poland&#8217;s imports from outside the EU . Exports were \u20ac1.25 billion, 1.7% of Poland&#8217;s extra-EU exports (<a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/eurostat\/statistics-explained\/index.php?title=Canada-EU_-_international_trade_in_goods_statistics#Trade_with_Canada_by_Member_State\">Eurostat<\/a>). Canada-Poland bilateral goods trade (imports + exports) grew by \u20ac272 million, or 18%, between 2016 and 2019 (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.international.gc.ca\/trade-commerce\/economist-economiste\/statistics-statistiques\/overview_canada_eu-apercu_canada_ue.aspx?lang=eng\">Statistics Canada<\/a>).<\/p>\n<h4>Sources<\/h4>\n<p>Foodwatch.
