Carleton University’s Achim Hurrelmann<\/a> is one of the professors associated with the Jean Monnet Network on Transatlantic Trade Politics. His scholarly work focuses on political debates and controversies about European integration (in parliaments, the media, and among citizens), democracy and legitimacy in the European Union, as well as transatlantic relations (especially Canada-Europe relations).<\/p>\n

On October 27th, 2020, he sat down for a socially-distanced interview with Sarah Mansour<\/a> to discuss the consequences of Brexit on Canada’s trade relationship with the United Kingdom and the European Union, as well as its implications for Canada’s broader identity and foreign policy orientation.<\/p>\n

The interview was recorded on October 27, 2020. On November 21, 2020, Canada and the United Kingdom announced a transitional trade agreement that protects some of the benefits of the Canada-EU Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) until a new Canada-UK trade agreement is negotiated.<\/p>\n
