SUMMARY:CUFixIt Repair Cafe and Lost & Found Sale
DESCRIPTION:Carleton’s inaugural Repair Café, CUfixIt is your chance to bring small household items and clothing for repair while you watch and learn. The event will also include the Lost and Found items sale and a host of demonstrations, helping you to reduce, reuse and repair right here on campus.

The suggested donation to attend is $2 for students and $4 for faculty and staff.

Repair

Clothing mending (holes in your precious wool socks and sweaters – don’t toss them, have them fixed and learn how to do it for yourself), easy no-sew hems, sewing on buttons, patching jeans, jackets, etc.
Jewelry – small repairs including tightening jump rings, untangling fine chains, switching out a small clasp ring for a larger one
Small appliance repair (toaster, kettles, sewing machines)

Demos

An expert from MacOdrum Library will be on hand to demonstrate book repair and tell you about options for saving precious items that may require alternative preservation techniques
The Varsity Nordic Ski Team will demonstrate cross country ski waxing and care, bike experts will show you how to patch a tire, tune your bike, and put it away for the winter. If you’re interested in winter cycling, we’ll have advice for that too!
Members of the Knitting Club will be on hand to demonstrate the art of knitting and crocheting, and offer assistance with small projects.
A musician will show you how to change guitar strings
A watch enthusiast will show you how to change your own watch battery (and point you toward money-saving tips and resources)

Sale

Lost and Found items, including electronics, jewelry and clothing (grab a bargain and raise money for a good cause)
sale tables for do-it-yourself/how-to books on household repair, crafts, electronics etc.

Since it’s a café, there will be coffee and cookies, while supplies last (thanks to the generosity of Dining Services).
