Students with an approved opt-out will no longer be required to return their card, as their U-Pass will be automatically deactivated upon approval and pro-rated fee refunded to their student account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Opt out applications must be submitted for every pass period if you are eligible to do so. Please visit <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/upass\/important-dates\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">important dates<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/upass\/cost-information\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">cost information<\/a> for more details.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">Please ensure you have completed your course registration prior to submitting an opt-out request. <\/strong>Opt-out applications will open on the dates below in Carleton Central. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Summer 2026 &#8211; March 24th, 2026<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fall 2026\/Winter 2027 &#8211; July 10th, 2026<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Opt-out applications are reviewed within ten business days of being received.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"opt-out-criteria\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Opt-Out Criteria<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The following are the ONLY criteria under which an eligible student may opt out of the U-Pass program. Opt-outs will be processed in mid-August and students will receive a confirmation email from the ISSO once processed. Students will not be required to return thier U-Pass as thier card will be automatically deactivated.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>If&nbsp;you are going on an outgoing exchange that is not arranged through the <a href=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/isso\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">International Student Services Office (ISSO)<\/a>, you will need to fill out an opt-out application in the &#8220;Student Online Applications&#8221; section of <a href=\"http:\/\/central.carleton.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Carleton Central<\/a>&nbsp;and provide the following supporting documents:<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:list -->\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li>A letter from the department that is sponsoring your exchange. You will then need to fill out an opt-out application in the &#8220;Student Online Applications&#8221; section of <a href=\"http:\/\/central.carleton.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Carleton Central<\/a> and provide the following supporting documents:<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:list -->\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li>A utility bill (such as hydro, cable, or phone) that has been issued within the past two months (and matches the address on your license); and<!-- wp:list -->\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li>The utility does not need to be addressed to the applicant.<\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item --><\/ul>\n<!-- \/wp:list --><\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item -->\n\n<!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li>A drivers&#8217;s license (which matches the address on the utility bill) or a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/upass\/opt-out-tenancy-agreement-final\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tenancy agreement form (PDF)<\/a>&nbsp;relating to leased premises located outside of the OC Transpo Service Area.<!-- wp:list -->\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><!-- wp:list-item -->\n<li>A tenancy agreement will only be accepted when there is a reasonable expectation that government issued identification cannot be provided.<\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item --><\/ul>\n<!-- \/wp:list --><\/li>\n<!-- \/wp:list-item --><\/ul>\n<!-- \/wp:list -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p><strong>Please note<\/strong>: The opt-out option is not available to students living in the STO service area as the U-Pass can be used on both sides of the river and will allow transportation to and from the region.
