Poor colour contrast can make text inaccessible to people with visual disabilities and difficult to read even for people with very good vision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"best-practice\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Best practice<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The ITS templates provided by the University use thoroughly tested colour combinations for text, links, and buttons. If you create content elsewhere, such as on a third-party website or in an email, use a colour contrast checker. We recommend <a href=\"https:\/\/webaim.org\/resources\/contrastchecker\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">WAVE&#8217;s Color Contrast Checker<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"example-of-less-accessible-practices\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Example of less accessible practices<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Poor examples are sometimes easy to spot. It makes information easier to perceive. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">SEO<\/strong>: This has a neutral effect on SEO.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">Marketing<\/strong>: A positive experience, like being able to read text more easily, helps create a positive impression for users. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"what-wcag-says\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">What WCAG says<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(Be sure to <a href=\"https:\/\/app.pope.tech\/result-documentation\">learn more about errors and alerts<\/a>.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From WCAG:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The visual presentation of text and images of text has a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1&#8230; This is to provide enough contrast between text and its background, so that it can be read by people with moderately low vision or impaired contrast perception, without the use of contrast-enhancing assistive technology.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/WAI\/WCAG22\/Understanding\/contrast-minimum.html\">Learn more about WCAG says about this issue<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Accessibility Text should always be rendered on the page in a colour that contrasts well enough with the background to make it most legible.
