We work in 3-week sprints. Basically, that means that we make a specific plan for what we will do over this period for each of our current projects. This includes, what we need to investigate, code, write, review, and test in order to move things forward. This way of working comes from a philosophy called Agile. We also do a lot of client support that’s not included in our sprints. You can learn more about Agile and how we work in this post.

Today I’d like to give you an update on the current sprint (hard to believe it is our 23rd…) so that you know what we have been up to!

Sprint #23 Accomplishments

Intranet

  • Created local environment for intranet development
  • Intranet API – upgraded to Laravel 8
  • Designed UI components for the following sections:
    • User profile section
    • Dashboard
    • Community and News
    • Profile
    • Career
    • Human Resources
    • Header
    • Settings

cuTheme

  • Added button to text column block
  • Investigated option to add the date to posts (implementation in a future sprint)

Raven Design System (RDS)

  • Built examples for side nav (cms) and top navigation (Framework)
  • Worked on dark mode
  • Built the project from create-rds-app
  • Created root component and added OAuth to the root of the project

Websites / WordPress

  • Created plugin for WordPress authentication
  • Investigated issues on FutureFunder website: cache, dropdown menu
  • Added game schedules to airtable and ability to display on the front end (Go Ravens)
  • Looked into possible ways to move form entries from one site to another to accompany a form when it is moved
  • Updated Carleton homepage (Future EDge changes)

Newsletter

Training and Documentation

  • Squarespace website pilot project to support non Carleton branded research websites – setup site including navigation, layout, theme, content, french option (BEKH)
  • Wrote document to inform clients of cuTheme migration process
  • Completed Website Review online training course
  • Created email modules in Campaign Monitor for Website Review (5 Steps to Review and Renew your Website – sign up to try it out!)
  • Reviewed cuTheme online training and began updates (revision of layout and navigation, redoing and adding new videos)
  • Did a big cleanup of Web Services site including deletion of 200 old news posts

Other Communications

  • Drafted ITS Year in Review
  • Created Web Services standard operating procedure (SOP) for Disaster Recovery Plan
  • Drafted ITS Communications Plan
  • Gathered requirements for Retention Schedule project
