Adding a People Category

When you’re creating people, you may find it helpful to organize them with people categories. For example, you could have multiple people listed on your site that fall into the “faculty” category.

To create a People Category, hover over People in the left-side navigation. Then select People Categories.

Create a Category

  1. First, name your category.
  2. You will then need to create a slug, which is essentially the URL-friendly version of the name. Words in the slug must be separated by hyphens, for example, this-is-a-slug.
  3. You can also choose a parent category. With this, you can organize your categories even further. For example, if you’re creating a category called “co-op advisors”, you may choose to categorize that under a parent category titled “Carleton staff.”
  4. You can also add a description of your category in the description box.
  5. Finally, select the Add New People Category button at the very bottom.

Now that you’ve created a people category, you can go back to creating a people page and add the person to a specific category.

Adding an Area of Expertise

An area of expertise can be anything. For example, communications, marketing, graphic design, student support, or mathematics.

Adding an area of expertise is nearly the same process as adding a people category.

Create an Area of Expertise

  1. Hover over People in the left-hand navigation and select Areas of Expertise.
  2. Just as you would when creating a people category, you have to create a name, slug, and decide whether it will fall under a parent category.

You can then return to your people page and add an area of expertise.
