{"id":13671,"date":"2019-05-13T10:07:55","date_gmt":"2019-05-13T14:07:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/webservices\/?p=13671"},"modified":"2024-06-08T09:43:52","modified_gmt":"2024-06-08T13:43:52","slug":"changes-are-coming-to-carleton-ca","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/webservices\/2019\/changes-are-coming-to-carleton-ca\/","title":{"rendered":"Changes are Coming to Carleton.ca"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<section class=\"w-screen px-6 cu-section cu-section--white ml-offset-center md:px-8 lg:px-14\">\n    <div class=\"space-y-6 cu-max-w-child-5xl  md:space-y-10 cu-prose-first-last\">\n\n            <div class=\"cu-textmedia flex flex-col lg:flex-row mx-auto gap-6 md:gap-10 my-6 md:my-12 first:mt-0 max-w-5xl\">\n        <div class=\"justify-start cu-textmedia-content cu-prose-first-last\" style=\"flex: 0 0 100%;\">\n            <header class=\"font-light prose-xl cu-pageheader md:prose-2xl cu-component-updated cu-prose-first-last\">\n                                    <h1 class=\"cu-prose-first-last font-semibold !mt-2 mb-4 md:mb-6 relative after:absolute after:h-px after:bottom-0 after:bg-cu-red after:left-px text-3xl md:text-4xl lg:text-5xl lg:leading-[3.5rem] pb-5 after:w-10 text-cu-black-700 not-prose\">\n                        Changes are Coming to Carleton.ca\n                    <\/h1>\n                \n                                \n                            <\/header>\n\n                    <\/div>\n\n            <\/div>\n\n    <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n<p>Four years ago, we redesigned the Carleton.ca home page and it has served us well by bringing in over 100,000 visitors each month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, four years is a long time in the digital world and we are happy to say that it\u2019s time for a fresh new look.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When approaching the refresh, the Department of University Communications and the Web Services Department within ITS looked at research on user behavior and preferences, best practices, and trends in web design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"what-will-not-change\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Will Not Change<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Although the design has changed, the goals of the website have not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From a content perspective, the new home page will continue to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Showcase Carleton as a leading university<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Attract new students<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provide a gateway for visitors to easy navigate to the information they need<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>From a design perspective, as with the previous design, the team worked to create a site that is:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Accessible\/AODA compliant<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mobile Friendly<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reliable and Fast<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"what-will-change\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Will Change<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are five key things that will change on the carleton.ca home page:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>It will be brighter.<\/strong> The dark background will be lighter.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The search bar will be moved to the top of the navigation.<\/strong> Although a frequently used feature, the search bar proved to be challenging when working with home page images.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Login links to cuLearn, Carleton Central, Portal, and Library will be moved.<\/strong> A new \u2018Jump to\u201d drop down menu that shortcuts to these pages will appear at the top right.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Tabs will be gone.<\/strong> Information will no longer be hidden behind tabs that require clicking.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>New content sections will be added.<\/strong> This includes a video section, curated events to better showcase what\u2019s going on at Carleton, and social media integration.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Want to see what it looks like?
