We encourage you to save this checklist, or bookmark the page and use it as a resource while implementing your accessibility plan.<\/p>\n<h2>Learning Goals<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Using the knowledge you&#8217;ve acquired in this training, review your current website or plan the creation of a new website with the checklist of accessibility goals we&#8217;ve prepared below<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Accessibility Goals Checklist<\/h2>\n<p>Below is a checklist of accessibility goals for your website. Use it to document your progress in reviewing or creating your website with accessibility in mind.<\/p>        <\/div>\n\n    <\/a>\n<\/div><\/section>\n\n<h3>General<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>You have an accessibility plan that documents:\n<ul>\n<li>How those on your team who create web content are educated on accessibility best practices<\/li>\n<li>How you will ensure all content currently on your website is as accessible as possible<\/li>\n<li>How you will ensure all new content added to your website is as accessible as possible<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>You are aware of the accessibility needs of your audience and have a means of being notified if those needs change, or if they are not being met<\/li>\n<li>Your navigation makes sense. Review your menu navigation with <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/webservices\/2022\/whats-on-the-menu-tips-for-building-effective-website-navigation\/\">this article on menu best practices<\/a>.\n<ul>\n<li>There should be multiple ways to access a page on the site (menu, links, buttons, etc.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Text<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Page and content titles are descriptive and relevant<\/li>\n<li>You are using proper heading structure<\/li>\n<li>Long paragraphs are broken up (no longer than 50 words, generally)\n<ul>\n<li>You can use bullet points to break up long paragraphs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Sentences are short, simple, and devoid of filler language<\/li>\n<li>There are no sentences in all caps<\/li>\n<li>Italics are not overused<\/li>\n<li>Anchor text is descriptive<\/li>\n<li>PDFs and external sites open in a new tab<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Images<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Alt text is used properly where needed, and omitted where images are purely decorative<\/li>\n<li>There are no images that convey important information (ex. instructions), where this information is not replicated in the body or alt text<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Videos<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>All videos have subtitles\/closed captioning<\/li>\n<li>Videos can be navigated using keyboard functions<\/li>\n<li>Transcripts for videos are provided<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Tables<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Tables use appropriate headings<\/li>\n<li>Tables are not being used to format text<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Conclusion<\/h2>\n<p>Congratulations, you&#8217;ve completed our Accessibility Training!<\/p>\n<p>While we&#8217;re happy to have had you take our training, your commitment to accessibility should not stop here: use the information in this training to review or create your website with accessibility in mind.
