Southern Voices on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
Global Affairs Canada is pleased to be hosting a discussion on Southern voices on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with Dr. Debapriya Bhattacharya and Ms. Andrea Ordonez from the Southern Voice on Post-MDG International Development Goals Network on Tuesday, September 26th. Southern Voice is a network of 49 think tanks from Africa, Asia and Latin America that serves as an open platform to stimulate, generate and promote high-quality evidence-based analyses for the global dialogue on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The presentation will discuss the experience of Southern Voice to date, findings from the network’s research programs, and challenges faced by think tanks of the Global South. The discussion will be moderated by David Morrison, Chief Development Officer (CDO) and Assistant Deputy Minister (ADM) for the Americas While the premise of a universal agenda seeks to unify the efforts of countries in different stages of development into one overarching framework, in practice, it must adjust to different political and cultural contexts worldwide. Localized research thus becomes critical. However, achieving the 2030 Agenda is more than the sum of national efforts. Without development-friendly changes in global governance that result in a greater voice for developing countries and enhanced policy coherence, success is unlikely. For this reason, research that focuses on the implications of the Global Partnership is essential Please join us for a stimulating discussion!
Please note that the presentation will be given in English. External participants are asked to arrive at least 10 minutes before the event begins, as they will be required to obtain security passes at the front desk. Tuesday, September 26th 11:00 a.m. to noon Room B1-308 Global Affairs Canada (Lester B. Pearson Building) 125 Sussex Drive, Ottawa, ON K1A 062 For more information, please contact Dragana Vujicic (dragana.vujicic@international.gc.ca). Please confirm your participation with Mark Godwin (mark.godwin@international.gc.ca) by Monday, September 25, 2017.

African Literature and the Press
This conference will reflect on the reciprocal relationship between the press and African literature of the 20th and 21st centuries. From colonial news bulletins to online magazines, via illustrated glossy magazines and daily papers created after the independences, the press has been a decisive mode of dissemination for African writers.
Our primary focus in this conference will be on the presence of African writers in the press produced on the African continent, and/or aimed principally at an African or diasporic audience.
Please send abstracts (300 words) with a title and a short biography (50 words max) to: colloquepresseafricaine@gmail.com by December 1st, 2017. The principal language of the conference will be French. We plan to publish a special issue from a selection of the papers presented.
