The use of animals in research, teaching or testing is a privilege that is extended when a justifiable need is established. Animal Care and Veterinary Services manages animal facilities for Carleton University’s research community, and serves as a component of the animal care and use program to ensure full compliance with the Canadian Council on Animal Care and Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.

Implementing and adhering to policies and guidelines on the proper care and use of animals in research, teaching or testing is a shared institutional responsibility shared by: the administration (including central, faculty and departmental); the University Veterinarian and Animal Care and Veterinary Services staff; faculty and students.
