Carleton University FASS on Instagram: “As mounting concerns about the ethics of AI continue to make headlines, Cognitive Science student Taran tells us about his interest in ethical AI, and how his well-rounded knowledge in psychology, neuroscience and philosophy impact his approach to the field of Computer Science.
Taran just completed a @carleton_u CUROP-funded research project where he coded a simulated environment to demonstrate the pitfalls of reinforcement learning (essentially, learning through reward/punishment).
The pitfalls of reinforcement learning apply across all intelligent beings, including humans.
Taran’s work helps draw the connections between AI and humans, hard sciences and social sciences.
Taran is a member of Carleton’s Animus Lab, led by Professor Mary Kelly, and wishes to thank Dr. Kelly and the graduate-level researchers in the Lab who helped with developing his idea and debugging his code.
