John Tracey’s Retirement Farewell

June 12, 2024 at 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM

Location:Atrium Richcraft Hall
Cost:Free

The Department of Cognitive Science invites you to attend John Tracey’s Retirement Farewell on Wed., June 12th from 9:30am to 11:30am in Richcraft Hall’s Atrium.

A Series of “One Minute” speeches will start at 10am so if you need a giggle for the day please be in attendance by then.

John has been on Carleton’s campus for a total of 47 years starting with his four year degree, three years of contract work and the latter forty years in various full time positions. In one of those positions (Housing for 24 years) he interviewed, hired, trained and supervised close to 1000 students.

He has seen a lot of changes in his almost five decades here and has made his name on campus from being known as “that guy who has been to Britain and Ireland 74 different times seeing almost 1800 plays and musicals”).

Over his years on campus he set up a United Way Fundraiser selling dvds and video games, ran a lottery pool for 100 people and single handed trimmed hundreds of dead tree branches all over campus.(before FMP told him to stop).

He actually chose to come back to work on campus in his office five days a week post pandemic since the University mandated a “return to Campus policy”. Why? – To assist those “lost souls” who migrate up to the 22nd floor of Dunton Tower for whatever reason. (Faculty, Staff and Students included).

John has grown and given away thousands of garlic bulbs to many friends and colleagues and still sends “old school” physical Christmas cards. A personal favourite of his is organizing monthly Chinese food dinners for staff and faculty. These items will continue post retirement.

He has made hundreds of friends from every corner of the campus over the years and hopes to stay in touch with as many as possible in the years to come.

The Department of Cognitive Science (who John has said has given him the best years of his life on campus thanks to it’s wonderful faculty, staff and students) is hosting this farewell retirement gathering, again on Wed., June 12th. We ask that you register your attendance below.

Finally, John’s last day of work: (on campus – where else), will be Friday, June 28th.
