I’m a long time technology advocate for the good of nature, animals and people. I’m deeply interested in the nature of intelligence, knowledge, information, and how complex systems emerge in their ecosystems.

I have over 15 years of experience in cognitive science, neuroscience, software, user experience, data, and AI. Particularly interested in the neural code, evolutionary, adaptation, embodied/situated cognition, language, and sensory-motor integration.

I’m a dreamer, inventor, scientist and entrepreneur. Maybe in that order…

Currently Director of Data & Analytics at the Peter Munk Cardiac Centre and Ted Rogers Centre for Heart Research. I’m also working with startups: Datadex, WeSearch Research.

AI advisory roles to TribalScale, Cortera.ai, Jauntin, Centennial College, and Durham College.

Advisor to the Canadian Association for Population Therapeutics (CAPT).

Keynote speaker in the application of AI for health (TSIF, CIHI).

Managed and drove some of the early vision for the Ontario Brain Institue’s big data platform for neuroinformatics: Brain-CODE.

Member of the Global Alliance for Genomics and Health since 2015.

An avid proponent of data sharing and AI driven discovery without compromising privacy and ethical technology use.

I also love film, music, cultures, languages, and the arts. You are what you see and you only see what you choose. I’m also a bit of a gear head and love everything on two wheels…

Francis graduated from the Ph. D. program in the Winter of 2014.
