Valerie Danieli

Research Intern

Valerie Danieli achieved a Master of Arts in History at the University of Windsor. Her research focused on colonial racism during turn-of-the-century Latin America as well as the use of media and gender identity in propagating these systems. Valerie’s lived experience has been invaluable to her role as a front-line representative for Toronto Community Housing and a literacy tutor with Literal Change. She has organized several grassroots initiatives to alleviate poverty in her neighbourhood, such as Project Zipper, a community effort to provide winter jackets to less advantaged kids and youth in Scarborough. She serves as co-chair for the Provincial HSJCC Anti-Racism Advisory Committee and is a member of the HSJCC PWLE Advisory Committee. Valerie is committed to improving outcomes for justice-involved people with complex needs. She is currently pursuing her law degree at Osgoode Hall. This project is important to me because the protection of human rights in Canada is inseparable from government transparency, and because all people deserve dignity and the same standard of human rights, regardless of their circumstances.
