Dr. Fouad, a general surgeon by training, holds the position of Associate Professor of Public Health Practice at the Faculty of Health Sciences at AUB. Additionally, he serves as the Co-Director of the Refugee Health Program at the Global Health Institute. His primary research focus centers on the forced displaced population, particularly with a keen interest in addressing the Syrian refugee crisis. Dr. Fouad’s research endeavors aim to understand the profound impact of this crisis on the health and overall well-being of the Syrian population.

With a wealth of experience in the field, Dr. Fouad has conducted extensive research on health workforces in humanitarian settings and has explored the weaponization of healthcare in armed conflicts. He serves as both Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator on numerous projects related to health in protracted and armed conflicts.

Dr. Fouad’s contributions extend beyond his research pursuits. He has served as a commissioner in two Lancet Commissions: the AUB-Lancet Commission on Syria and the crises in global governance, health, and aid, as well as the UCL-Lancet Commission on Migration and Health. Furthermore, Dr. Fouad is a prolific author, with over 80 articles, Op-eds, and reports published in esteemed journals such as the Lancet, PloS, BMJ, Conflict and Health, SS&M, and NYT.
