This First Year Seminar introduces diverse forms of historical and contemporary social changes in Canada. We will discuss how people have challenged existing social norms and practices in Canada and have changed Canadian society through different forms of collective action. We will specifically explore a broad range of social activism and social movements including Indigenous movements, feminist movements, queer/trans activism, labour movements, environment justice activism, migrant justice activism, etc.

This First Year Seminar will also help you plan your academic journey throughout your degree and develop critical thinking and academic skills by engaging in discussion with peers and the instructor and by learning how to research and write an academic paper.
