Protection and preservation of our physical environment underlies sustainability. Climate change threatens our access to clean water, fresh air and uncontaminated land but it also threatens health either through the spread of disease or the proliferation of toxicants. The science underlying climate change is clear but the routes to taking action to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals of (1) Clean Water and Sanitation, (2) Affordable Clean Energy, (3) Climate preservation, (4) and quality of life on the land and in the water are all affected by politics, influencers, culture and the media. This course will explore the rationale for, and approaches embedded in the Sustainable Development Goals and identify where, why and how science, opinion and politics collide or collude to make change. It will be a problem-based approach to explore these issues.
