Is Canada a safe haven?
That was the question asked by global migration researcher Alison Mountz of Wilfrid Laurier University at the first annual Borders + Migration Lecture, hosted by Professor of Political Science William Walters, an FPA Research Excellence Chair.
In her discussion, Mountz contrasted the experience of Vietnam war resistors who came to Canada versus those war resistors who arrived during the Afghanistan and Iraq Wars in the 2000s. She also compared how they were received from the Canadian government.
