Mikaelia graduated from the University of Guelph with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a minor in Family and Child Studies.
Research: Mikaelia’s natural love for children and youth guided much of her educational aspirations until she was introduced to forensic psychology during her upper years. From there, she was inspired to redirect her attention towards how psychology and the justice system intersect and interact. Particularly, her role as a peer counsellor for students who identify as Black, Indigenous and People of Colour (BIPOC), exposed a need for more research to be conducted for these communities. In her final undergraduate year, Mikaelia completed her thesis on adolescent injury risk on skateparks with a focus on skatepark features and protective equipment use. This seemingly contrasting topic truly honed her research ethic and skills.
Future Goals: In her master’s, she hopes to study youth and crime through a culturally cognisant lens.
