Dr. Roshan Arah Jahangeer (she/her/elle/li) completed a PhD in Political Science from York University in 2022 and is a Contract Faculty in the School of Gender, Sexuality & Women’s Studies at York University. She was the inaugural Postdoctoral Fellow in Islamophobia in Health Professions Education at the Temerty Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto, from 2022- 2023. Her doctoral research explores the transnational circulation of anti-veiling laws between France and Québec and their impacts on Muslim women in the contexts of secularism, feminism, and Islamophobia. Her current research, “Migrating for Religious Freedom? Studying the Migration Experiences of French and Québécois Muslim Women in Canada,” explores the ‘hijra’ (migration) of Muslim women away from France and Quebec to other parts of Canada. She is currently recruiting participants for her research in Ottawa, Toronto, and across various Canadian cities.

Dr. Jahangeer’s work has been published in peer-reviewed journals and edited collections, such as, the Canadian Journal of Women and the Law (2020), Producing Islam(s) in Canada: On Knowledge, Positionality and Politics (2022), and At the Limits of Justice: Women of Colour on Terror (2014). She has also written op-eds for the Montreal Gazette and The Conversation. She has worked with community organizations such as the Canadian Council for Muslim Women, and was previously a Research Director and Board Member at the Tessellate Institute, an independent, non-profit research institute that explores and documents the lived experiences of Muslims in Canada.
