Professor Vivien Schmidt will be the keynote speaker at the official launch event for the Jean Monnet Chair “Democracy in the European Union”, to be held on January 28, 2016. Vivien Schmidt is Jean Monnet Professor of European Integration, Professor of International Relations and Political Science at Boston University, and Founding Director of BU’s Center for the Study of Europe. Her research focuses on European political economy, institutions, democracy, and political theory. Her book Democracy in Europe (2006) was named in 2015 by the European Parliament as one of the “100 Books on Europe to Remember”. In her keynote lecture, she will reflect on how the main arguments of Democracy in Europe stand up ten years after its publication. The exact time for the launch event will be confirmed shortly.
