Professor Achim Hurrelmann is one of the editors of the first textbook on European Union politics written specifically for Canadian university students. Hurrelmann co-edited the book, European Union Governance and Policy Making: A Canadian Perspective (University of Toronto Press 2018), with Emmanuel Brunet-Jailly and Amy Verdun of the University of Victoria.
The textbook is aimed at students who do not have an extensive background knowledge of European politics. It introduces the EU’s political system, gives an overview of core policies, and discusses some of the main challenges that the EU is currently facing. It integrates Canadian content and examples to demonstrate how Canada compares to the EU. In addition to co-editing the book and co-authoring the Introduction and Conclusion, Professor Hurrelmann contributed the chapter on “Democracy in the European Union”.
