Dr. Jamie Hockin

Dr. Jamie Hockin holds degrees in Statistics (Waterloo), Medicine (Toronto) and Epidemiology (Ottawa). During 28 years at Health Canada and the Public Health Agency of Canada, he expanded the Field Epidemiology Training Program and developed core learning activities for trainees. He led or advised on multiple investigations, surveillance projects and health emergencies in Canada and around the world. In this capacity, he participated in the resettlement of refugees from Kosovo. He worked with international colleagues to establish TEPHINET, the global network of applied epidemiology training programs. He was responsible for the team that developed Canada’s Skills Online program and the Core Competencies for Public Health Practice. He received the Public Health Human Resources Award from the Canadian Public Health Association in 2009 in recognition of his contributions to public health learning in Canada. He is a member of the editorial board of the new American Journal of Field Epidemiology.
