Professor Mojtaba Ahmadi and his students in the Advanced Biomechatronics and Locomotion (ABL) Laboratory are making substantial progress in developing robotic systems for use in biomedical applications.

One of the new robots, named ABL-B1, is a bio-inspired biped walking robot to be used in studying balance in walking, learning and optimal controllers, and development of future artificial limbs.

In parallel, the group is developing ViGRR – Virtual Gait Rehabilitation Robot – which is a haptic-based rehabilitation robotic sysem designed to assist post-stroke patients and others with neurological illnesses in re-learning how to walk.

These robot development activities of Dr. Ahmadi and his students are closely followed by the medical community as recently illustrated on Daily Planet on the Discovery Channel.

The lab employs PhD candidates, Graduate Students and Undergraduate students.
