Emily Nickel – Project Manager
Emily is an MA Candidate in European, Russian and Eurasian Studies (EURUS) at Carleton University, where she is researching the EU’s asylum and refugee policies. She has previously delegated at Model NATO, and has acted as Chair of both the Civilian Intelligence and Military Committees.
Emily currently works in the International Humanitarian Assistance division at Global Affairs Canada. She has many years of professional experience in international affairs, including with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), and both the Parliament and Senate of Canada. In her spare time, Emily enjoys playing the piano and learning new languages. She hopes to attend law school next year.
As Project Manager, Emily would like to encourage anyone with questions to get in touch. She is excited to work with such a wonderful team and looks forward to the conference!
Jamison Boley – Deputy Project Manager
Jamison Boley is currently studying a Masters of International Affairs at NPSIA, specializing in International Conflict Analysis and Resolution. She is a student in the combined JD/MA program run jointly through the University of Ottawa’s Common Law School and Carleton. Jamison has an Honors’ Specialization from Western University in International Relations. It was at Western where Jamison participated in Model NATO as a delegate and discovered an interest in international security. She has attended and helped coordinate various conferences across Canada including the Canadian Political Science Students’ Association (CPSSA) National Conference and Pugwash International. Having completed her first year of law school, she is passionate about the intersection of international law and conflict. Jamison is excited to be working with the other outstanding members of the Secretariat in order to host a fantastic academic experience for all delegates.
Garrett Milne – Secretary-General
Garrett is currently in his first year of graduate studies in the Infrastructure Protection and International Security program at Carleton University. This is his first year being involved with Carleton’s Model NATO conference but he has previous experience in Model United Nations. While completing his Bachelor of Arts in History at Queen’s University, he was a member of the MUN team, traveling to conferences at Yale and Harvard University. Garrett also chaired a committee at Queen’s Model United Nations Invitational. He was also involved in Queen’s Interactive Crisis Simulation, an internal Model UN style conference, as a crisis director,
Moving forward in the MIPIS program at Carleton, Garrett hopes to focus on international affairs in relation to terrorism and conflicts.
Garrett is looking forward to a conference that focuses more on military and conflicts as opposed to the Model United Nations conferences he has attended in the past. As Secretary General, Garrett is eager to help organize and execute a successful conference.
Jessica Klasser – Crisis Director
Jessica is a recent graduate of Carleton University who currently works for the government in air cargo security as well as on Parliament Hill doing political correspondence and social media relations.
Jessica has been an active member on the MUN circuit since High School and made the transition from delegate to director of IPF for Carleton and CANIMUN before having worked as part of the crisis staff for Model NATO the past three years.
Jessica has been involved with various Non-Governmental organizations since High School, primarily working on issues related to gender inequality and the plight of child soldiers and refugees. She became an Advocacy Intern for STAND Canada in 2012 and was recently promoted to the position of Ottawa Regional Director.
Crisis Director – Daniel Fisher
Daniel is currently studying a combined Bachelor of Humanities and Political Science, specializing in International Relations, at Carleton University. He has previously delegated at Model NATO, and has acted as Crisis Staff at MNATO 2016. He has helped to organize and attended many Model U.N. events and conferences in his past 4 years while in Ottawa, and while abroad in France and the United Kingdom.
As co-Crisis Director, Daniel is excited to create a crisis simulation where all delegates can work together to solve real-world problems in a condensed time-frame.
