Biography

With a career spanning the philanthropic sector, Sharilyn Hale holds a passion for governance and the critical role of governance education. She has served in executive leadership within charities, working directly with philanthropists and boards of directors. And as the founder of Watermark Philanthropic Council, she consults on governance and philanthropy to charity boards, private foundations and generous families internationally. A practitioner, educator and researcher, Hale is also an experienced volunteer director with local, national and international boards.

She holds the Chartered Director credential for corporate governance from the Directors’ College at The DeGroote School of Business, at McMaster University. She’s also a certified advisor and trainer with BoardSource, the renowned, go-to resource for nonprofit governance.  Her doctoral research focused on governance and family philanthropy.

Sharilyn Hale is a member of the MPNL program’s Advisory Council and is an enthusiastic ambassador for the program. She’ll teach PANL 5004 (Governance and Leadership) in 2023.
