The Özerdinç-Grimes fellowship aims to deepen the academic relationship between Canadian and Turkish scholars. The Fellowship invites Turkish scholars to live, research, and teach in Canada’s capital.

Eligibility – Fellows must hold a Ph.D. in political science, international relations, history, sociology, or a related field in social sciences.

  • Research and teaching interests on modern Turkey (post 1923), Turkish politics (including foreign policy) and society, as evidenced by publication and prior teaching experience.

Duties – Fellows, during their appointment, will engage in the following activities:

  • Teaching INAF 5409/PSCI 4809 (0.5 credit) – Special Topics graduate course during Summer term (July – August)
  • Deliver the Özerdinç-Grimes Public Lecture for the MTS
  • Meetings and other engagements with Carleton faculty, students, MTS affiliates, and the broader community

The Özerdinç-Grimes Fellowship is generously supported by Kathleen Grimes and Ersin Özerdinç. A successful business couple, Ersin and Kathleen have always endorsed the Kemalist principles of a democratic Türkiye, fully committed to gender equality, freedom of the press and the rule of law. A part of their donation supports the annual Özerdinç-Grimes Public Lecture, acknowledging their generosity, on a topic in current Turkish affairs to inform Canadians who believe in friendly and closer Turkey-Canada relations.
