Shine Soki
Lab Alumni
Shine is a fourth-year Health Psychology student specializing in the Mental Health and Well-being stream. Her research interests are centred on the intersections of ethnicity, identity, and gender, particularly in how they influence psychological well-being. Shine’s thesis employs the biopsychosocial model of challenge and threat to explore how ethnic identification might serve as a buffer against the adverse effects of discrimination. Additionally, in the Rogers Child and Youth Mental Health Labs, Shine was involved in another research project investigating the relationship between attention and hyperactivity issues in school-aged children and youth, and its impact on school attendance rates. A fun fact about Shine is that her background in gymnastics, with its emphasis on discipline and rigour, has significantly contributed to her success in academics and research.
