In the spring of 2019, Kayla completed her Bachelor of Engineering in Sustainable and Renewable Energy at Carleton University. During her undergrad she assisted in the development of the CHEeR House by assessing the structures air tightness. After finding out about the innovative research being done under Dr. Cruickshank, she joined the SESL team.
As a masters candidate, Kayla’s research primarily focuses on transcritical CO2 heat pump water heaters. The effectiveness of a heat pump using natural refrigerants is relevant to the advancement in home heating systems. Specifically to the elimination of harmful alternatives commonly found in residential homes.
Other emerging fields of interest are space conditioning residential buildings using radiant floors coupled with heat pumps, indigenous studies, and high performance greenhouses in Canada.
