Student Opportunities

Potential PhD and MSc Candidates

For potential PhD and M.Sc candidates interested in improving the efficiency and scope of energy systems, the Solar Energy Systems Lab is accepting students on a rolling basis.

Current areas of research at the Solar Energy Systems Lab (SESL) includes thermal storage, combined space and water heating systems, solar cooling systems, and advanced solar buildings. Research methods taken on by the SESL team members, provide a mechanism for the design and optimization of solar components.

The SESL has helped Dr. Cruickshank in developing collaborative relationships with researchers at other Canadian universities, particularly those engaged in the NSERC Solar Buildings Research Network.

The lab has a focus on experimental work as well as numerical modelling in terms of characterizing thermal processes in order to determine the technical and economic viability of innovative solar integration.

Our research team, led by Dr. Cynthia Cruickshank, consists of graduate students with degrees in Mechanical Engineering, Sustainable Energy Engineering and Policy, and Environmental Engineering. Often, research assistants and undergraduate students are also involved in projects carried out at the SESL.

For more information regrading current projects or to inquire about opportunities, please contact Dr. Cynthia Cruickshank at cynthia.cruickshank@carleton.ca or +1 (613) 520-2600 ext. 1964.
