Explore Ottawa’s 2SLGBTQIA+ History

Tour guide: Glenn Crawford (Village Legacy Project).

Established by the Bank Street Business Improvement Area, the Village Legacy Project interprets historical and contemporary sites of importance to Ottawa’s 2SLGBTQIA+ community. On this interactive walking tour, participants will learn about the people and events that have shaped queer culture in Canada’s capital region and beyond, while visiting sites in and around the city’s downtown where members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community have come together over the years, and where Ottawa’s liberation movement was formed.

Participants will also learn about the systemic violence and discrimination directed at lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender residents of the city, as well as the political, social, and health services organizations that serve the community today.
