Are you a faculty or staff member looking to engage a corporate partner through sponsorship? Perhaps you already have an event, program or project in mind and have thought about which organizations you’d like to connect with? Or maybe you’re just starting your journey into what corporate sponsorship entails. We’re here to help! University Advancement works with campus partners by:
- advising on sponsorship strategies and on identifying corporate partners;
- reviewing sponsorship packages and facilitating sponsorship agreements with corporate partners (where required);
- ensuring co-ordination among Carleton’s various departments with corporate partners.
Things to consider
Working with corporate partners presents an opportunity to collaborate on shared goals from different perspectives. For example, students can benefit from connecting directly with professionals in the field while at the same time, corporate sponsors have employees from diverse backgrounds who are willing to share their expertise and experience with students. Whatever the case may be, there are a variety of factors to think about when inviting corporate sponsorship. As a starting point, we recommend you consider the following questions:
- What is the overall impact of your project, event, program, etc.?
- How would sponsorship address the goals of the corporate partner (e.g., connecting with students, enhancing profile, engaging company employees)?
- What exposure (e.g. signage, social media tags, speaking roles) would the sponsor receive?
- Have you consulted with your unit/faculty’s leadership about your proposed initiative?
- Who are some potential/ideal sponsors you would like to work with?
- Who are some potential sponsors who would not be a good fit for your initiative?
- What value of sponsorship are you seeking?
- Is the project a better fit for inviting philanthropic support? If so, visit Future Funder to learn more.
