Community Approaches to Sexual Violence Prevention

How can we create a supportive and protective environment for survivors?

Equity and Inclusive Communities offers a 2.5 hour workshop that expands on how to support a student or colleague who discloses sexual violence. The training will cover various sexual violence prevention efforts, bystander intervention, implementing trauma informed-practices, and the Sexual Violence Policy.

Please note this workshop is paused for the winter 2024 term.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this workshop, faculty and staff will be able to:

  • Demonstrate supportive communication skills
  • Explain the four principles of trauma-informed care
  • Identify common coping strategies
  • Describe anti-oppressive and intersectional approaches to sexual violence
  • Apply practical steps towards sexual violence prevention
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of the process and procedures in the Sexual Violence Policy

What to expect at the session

Session Length: 2.5 hours

This workshop may include the following activities:

  • Content warning: training includes topics related to sexual violence
  • Periods of sitting
  • Listening to a facilitator
  • Discussion and interaction with colleagues
  • Creation of visual materials
  • Viewing a multimedia presentation
  • Viewing a video
