Effective Communication and De-Escalation skills
Effective communication is an important foundation to any interaction. In the context of remote learning and work, many of the ways in which we communicate have needed to evolve. This workshop will review strategies for communicating effectively with students in a virtual world, as well as techniques for communicating in more difficult circumstances through an exploration of de-escalation skills.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Summarize potential barriers to effective communication
- Apply communication techniques such as OARS and Active Listening
- Identify techniques to manage an escalated situation
- Recall de-escalation and communication strategies to apply in their role
What to expect at the session
Session length: 2 hours
This workshop may include the following activities:
- Periods of sitting
- Listening to a facilitator
- Movement around the physical space (optional)
- Discussion and interaction with colleagues
- Viewing a multimedia presentation
