Student Development Theory in Higher Education

This session will introduce the topic of student development theory and its application in Higher Education. It will provide participants with overview of several student development theories as well as an opportunity to reflect on how they can help students with their own development.

Please note this workshop is paused for the winter 2024 term.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this workshop, faculty and staff will be able to:

  • Discuss the significance of student development theories
  • Describe at least two theories that help shape their practice as educators
  • Identify ways to help students with their own development

What to expect at the session

Session length: 1.5 hours

This workshop may include the following activities:

  • Listening to a facilitator
  • Discussion and interaction with colleagues
  • Reading provided written material
  • Viewing a multimedia presentation
