Collins conducts research in the field of Space Robotics and Artificial Intelligence (AI), focusing on the application of machine learning for predictive control using biomimetic approach. His research areas include space robotics, adaptive manipulator algorithms, on-orbit servicing and neural network controllers. Collins was awarded the Donald Michie Memorial Trophy for the best technical paper at the AI-2022, British Computer Society Special Group on Artificial Intelligence’s Conference, Cambridge.
He has published papers in space robotics and artificial intelligence and has considerable industrial experience as well in the applications of machine learning, particularly in the domains of Computer Vision and Reinforcement Learning. Collins also has passion for teaching, and he won the 2020/2021 university-wide Outstanding Teaching Assistant award, as the Lead TA for MAAE 3202 and MAAE 2202.
