Carla Smith

Biography

Carla Smith is the Executive Vice President and Chief People, Strategy and Climate Officer at Intact, the largest provider of property and casualty insurance in Canada and a leading provider of global specialty insurance. As the head of climate, Smith ensures that climate change is prioritized as a lens through which Intact manages its business and that the organization’s internal climate change goals are met – including its commitment to achieving net zero emissions overall by 2050 to align with the Paris Agreement and to halve its operational emissions by 2030.

Smith’s career with Intact has spanned more than 20 years, holding senior leadership positions throughout the company. In addition to her duties as Chief Climate Officer, she currently serves as the global chief human resources officer and the chief strategy officer, developing and sustaining Intact’s corporate strategy by equipping the senior team to navigate important strategic decisions and trade-offs. Smith is a chartered insurance professional and holds a Global Professional Master of Laws from the University of Toronto, a Master of Business Administration from Queen’s University, and a Bachelor of Business Administration (Finance) from Simon Fraser University.
