To all undergraduate and graduate students in the College of the Humanities,
I am reaching out in order to communicate a few things about the College and the remarkable situation we are now experiencing. I want to reassure you that the College is working with the University to ensure that we can finish the academic year while minimizing risk to students, staff, and faculty. Everyone now is dealing with unusual circumstances, so there is bound to be some confusion and some bumps along the way in the next few weeks. Have patience with one another, with university employees, and know that people are doing their work with best intentions and all good will.
We are available by email in the College to answer any questions or concerns you might have. The offices are now closed, but you can email me or the administrators for your program:
For HUMS and GRS, Andrea McIntyre (Andrea.McIntyre@carleton.ca)
For RELI Karina Auclair (karina.auclair@carleton.ca)
I would like to remind you to check this site regularly for Carleton updates and information: https://newsroom.carleton.ca/coronavirus-covid-19/?utm_source=Homepage&utm_medium=Banner
A good resource for information in Ottawa is Ottawa Public Health: https://www.ottawapublichealth.ca/en/index.aspx. Some good general advice from their website:
- It’s OK to NOT be OK. Please know that help is available and we encourage you to reach out to Distress Centre of Ottawa to connect with someone at 613-238-3311.
- Stay healthy by eating well, drinking lots of fluids, staying active (if well), and trying to get enough rest and sleep. A healthy immune system is better equipped to fight an infection.
At Carleton, Health Services are still available by phone:
- For urgent care (walk in) please call 613-520-6674. You will be triaged by telephone to determine the safest way to provide you care.
- For crisis counselling please call 613-520-2600 ext. 6676. You will be triaged by telephone to determine the safest way to provide support.
Let me remind you that all events are cancelled until the end of April and until further notice. Classes, of course, have been moved online and will resume on Wednesday.
The dropboxes will not be checked. Please discuss with your professors how turn in class assignments (e.g., by email or via CULEARN). If you left something in the dropbox on or after Friday afternoon, please also send it to your professor by email or CULEARN.
All best wishes,
Shane Hawkins
