Ida Dickie
Dr. Dickie is a Forensic Psychologist who has a broad range of academic, clinical, training and consulting experience disseminating evidence based practice within an interdisciplinary legal system. Academically, Dr. Dickie developed and directs the Forensic Psychology graduate and Restorative Justice Minor undergraduate program at Spalding University. Clinically, over the past 17 years, she has worked with various justice involved populations in both the Canadian and American criminal justice systems Locally, she currently runs her own evidence based treatment program for male offenders at a 225 bed private community correctional facility, as well as a community re-entry 17 bed residential program in Louisville, KY. Her training, consulting and research interests advances the criminal justice system at the local, national, and international level. Dr. Dickie research program currently involves: 1) working with local law enforcement and examining the impact of training officers to recognize implicit bias and to use restorative communication in their daily interactions with justice involved individuals; 2) evaluating the use of talking circles with African American males returning from prison; and 3) evaluating the local juvenile courts restorative justice initiative. She has trained interdisciplinary legal stake holders on topics including: 1) evidence based assessment and treatment forensic/correctional practice, risk assessment; 2) ethics and self-care; 3) compassion fatigue in judges; 4) therapeutic jurisprudence; 5) restorative justice; 6) criminal justice organizational change. Dr. Dickie currently participates in a national university taskforce articulating how to use restorative practices on college campuses to help victims deal with sexual violence. Her clinical and academic skill set informs state level practice with justice involved populations; she currently sits on governor appointed state boards including the Sex Offender Risk Assessment board, and Juvenile Justice Advisory Board. Overall, Dr. Dickie’s life’s work has been dedicated to the advancement of evidence based practices within the legal system that are humane and compassionate, contributing to the overall wellbeing of justice involved individuals and communities at the individual, community and systems level.
