Renée Gobeil
Renée completed her PhD in 2013 and has since held a number of research and policy positions at the Correctional Service of Canada and Public Safety Canada, including Director of Research where she led a team of almost 30 researchers and evaluators working to support evidence-based policy and decision-making in the areas of crime prevention, law enforcement, policing, and corrections. She also served a three-year term as an adjunct professor during which time she co-supervised five undergraduate students’ thesis work, and has collaborated with a number of other jurisdictions to advance their research and applied work in the areas of parole and women offenders.
She is currently Director of Firearms and Operational Policing Policy at Public Safety Canada where she leads a team responsible for providing information, analysis, and recommendations on matters relating to firearms policy, including developing advice to Cabinet on legislative and regulatory issues, coordinating the efforts of the Public Safety Portfolio agencies – in particular the RCMP and CBSA – in addressing firearms-related policy issues, and providing national leadership on firearms and operational policing priorities.
