Ramy Kirollos is currently working as a Defence Scientist at Defence Research and Development Canada.
Pervious Experience
Ramy began his PhD Candidacy at Carleton in Winter 2015 in the Advanced Cognitive Engineering Lab under the supervision of Dr. Chris Herdman.
During his Bachelor’s Ramy was involved in a binocular vision research project investigating shape constancy as well as a research project investigating visual illusions of self-motion perception in microgravity compared to Earth’s 1-g gravity.
During his Master’s Ramy conducted an fMRI experiment to identify the neural correlates related to visual self-motion perception processing in the human brain.
He has an interest in human visual perception, specifically spatial orientation, depth perception and visual-vestibular sensory integration.
Ramy has a particular interest in understanding the limitations of the visual and vestibular systems in the context of human flight. Since coming to Carleton for his PhD, he has been investigating how these two systems interact in deciding direction of an individual’s self-motion and has also done some work on the impact of motion disruptions on working memory during flight simulations.
