Canada’s next-generation geospatial leaders made their mark this summer at the CCMEO Student Hackathon: Building Resilience with GEO.ca.

This national competition challenged students to develop geospatial solutions for real-world emergency response and resilience challenges.

After a month of innovation, coding, and analysis, the winners were announced live in Ottawa. Second Place was awarded to Abdul Mutakabbir, a PhD student in Carleton’s DSAAI program, for his project “Heuristics for Forest Fires”—an application that visualizes changes in land cover caused by forest fires.

Congratulations to Abdul on this outstanding achievement!
