I love my college and my campus. Being stuck in my hometown is depressing but luckily, my boyfriend is here with me. In school, we live in dorms that are separated by a parking lot. Here, I have to drive twenty minutes to see him… until they decide to start the mandatory shelter-in-place. My problems aren’t the biggest in this disaster, but they effect me and my motivation to continue my courses. People are out of jobs and using up all of the sanitary products, I’m here in this small town trying to do big things through a computer screen and my mom is locked up inside fearing death by COVID-19. Her home health care nurse calls her twice a week and reminds her, “if you get this virus, you WILL die” then continues with her over-the-phone session. We are all trying new things and stepping out of our comfort zones, or rather being locked in the comfort of our homes, in attempts to combat this virus. All restaurants here are either closed or providing curbside pickup, which is running some of them to insanity. Parents are now realizing that it’s not the teacher’s fault for their child’s misbehavior… and now they have to deal with the kids themselves. Hopefully, when this is over, people will not take their freedom to socialize for granted. Hopefully, people will start tipping their servers better when they finally get to go out to eat. Hopefully, we continue to practice better hygiene. Hopefully, this ends soon.
